Char is a contemporary British landscape photographer shooting exclusively in 35mm.

Graduating from Fine Art Photography at The Glasgow School of Art in 2020. She has been awarded The Royal Glasgow Institute of Fine Art ‘New Graduate’ award for outstanding work.

Capturing the smaller aspects of life, such as snow falling on a mountain top or a wave crashing against the shore, the artist ensures that these fleeting moments are not overlooked. They are instead preserved in a photograph - where they can be infinitely reproduced and re-experienced.

Each image is layered with centuries of myth, memories and obsessions - capturing marks left on the landscape by those who have inhabited it. Offering subtle indications of human life often centred around agriculture and religion or capturing crude, playful forms of mark making associated with modern living. By immersing herself in these moments: the artist becomes a Rückenfigur.

These photographs offer quiet contemplations and windows into a collective history that can ground her anxious mind. Through the meditative act of observing, preserving and reflecting, this body of work hopes to remind us all that amongst the chaos of modernity; it is crucial to reflect on what it is to be a living, breathing human being at this exact moment in time.

Char currently works as a gallery manager and is based in North Wales/Chester.
